The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP) is a global Catholic lay organization inspired by the life and virtues of St. Vincent de Paul, the Apostle of Charity.
At the Central Council of Vellore, we continue this sacred mission by reaching out to the poor, the sick, and the marginalized — serving Christ through acts of love and compassion.
Our Conferences across the Vellore Diocese work tirelessly to uplift lives through home visits, education assistance, healthcare support, and community welfare.
Together, we transform faith into action, building a world filled with dignity and hope.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic voluntary organization dedicated to the sanctification of its members through service to the poor and disadvantaged.
Founded in 1833 by Blessed Frederic Ozanam, the Society continues its mission of charity and compassion across the world — transforming lives through love in action.
The Society was first introduced in India by French Missionaries at Pondicherry during 1852–53. It was officially established in 1863 with the aggregation of the first Bombay Conferences.
Today, the National Council of India coordinates all Vincentian activities nationwide, guiding thousands of Conferences committed to serving those in need.
Central Councils, formed at the diocesan level by grouping Area Councils, play a vital role in organizing and strengthening Vincentian service at the grassroots.
There are 84 Central Councils in India (as of March 2019), each guiding and coordinating the charitable works of Area Councils and Conferences under their care.
